Value Delivered

We provided mechanical, design-assist solutions across this new court facility. Our team had recently completed a separate jail project for Maricopa County and was familiar with detention facilities and the County’s unique needs. Although the Court Tower was not a jail, it combined many of the security details we were familiar with, and our prior knowledge helped improve project efficiency and quality.

Client Objectives

The County wanted to build a modern courthouse with technologies designed to improve efficiency and meet the rapidly increasing backlog and growing needs of the justice system.

Solutions

UMEC provided comprehensive HVAC, plumbing, and fire life safety systems, as well as design-assist, installation, start-up, and commissioning services. We also leveraged our extensive BIM capabilities to facilitate the fabrication and accurate placement of all concrete embeds and inserts.

Work was completed across a 16-story, 695,000-square-foot tower. The facility houses both courtrooms and jail cells, providing a more integrated and efficient criminal courts system. Twenty-two of the potential 32 courtrooms in the building were built out. The remaining ten will be finished as needed.

Client Background

With more than 4-million residents, Maricopa County is the most populous county in Arizona and home to Phoenix, the county seat and state capital.
